Our Beliefs

The Bible

Family Bible Church is founded on the Bible as our absolute authority. We believe the scriptures, both old and new testaments, are the complete Word of God, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. As stated in 2 Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness”.

[2 Peter 1:20-21; Revelation 22:18-19]

God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

We believe in one God, creator and sustainer of all things, infinitely perfect, and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

[Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; Mark 12:29; John 10:30; Acts 5:3-4, 7:55-56; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Timothy 2:5-6; Hebrews 1:3]

We believe the Father is the supreme authority, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love. We believe that he hears and answers our prayers, and he saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.

[John 14:28-31; 15:7; Acts 1:7-8; Hebrews 1:3; James 1:17]

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who became a man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins, was buried, and then came to life again on the third day. He appeared to the twelve apostles and to more than 500 of the brothers at the same time. He then ascended into heaven where He sits at the right hand of God the Father where He intercedes for us.

[Matthew 1:21; Luke 1:34; John 1:1-2, 14, 18, 10:15; Romans 3:24-25, 5:8; 1 Corinthians 15:3-5; 1 Peter 2:2-4]

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the divine counselor who convicts people of their sin, intercedes for us in prayer and guides us into all truth. The Holy Spirit is the seal that guarantees salvation and all spiritual gifts are given through Him to build up the body of Christ. All believers are to be controlled by the Spirit, not the sinful nature.

[John 14:16-17, 26, 16:13; Acts 5:1-11; Romans 8:9-11, 26; 1 Corinthians 12:7; Ephesians 1:13, 5:18]

Man

We believe that God created man in His own image for His glory. Due to the disobedience of the first man, Adam, all men have inherited a sinful nature and have sinned, earning the penalty of death. Man’s sin and iniquity separate us from God and our fellowship with God has been broken. Man is powerless to save himself and restore this fellowship with God.

[Genesis 1:27; Isaiah 43:7, 59:2; Romans 3:10, 23, 5:12-21, 6:23]

Salvation

We believe that salvation is a gift of God, found only in Jesus Christ and that this gift is available to all men. We must recognize our need for a Savior and turn to God in repentance, confessing with our mouth “Jesus is Lord” and believing in our heart that God raised Him from the dead. It is by grace we are saved through faith.

[John 3:15-18; Acts 2:38; 16:30-31; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-9]

We believe that all who have been saved have been adopted into the family of God and their names have been written in the Book of Life. They have received eternal life and shall never perish, for no one can snatch them out of the Father’s hand. All believers have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, which leads to holiness.

[John 10:27-29; Romans 6:15-23; Galatians 4:7; Ephesians 1:5; Revelation 21:27]

Baptism

We believe, that in obedience to the scriptures, every believer in Jesus Christ should be baptized. This baptism of immersion in water allows us to identify with Jesus Christ’s death, burial and resurrection, and is done in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

[Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38, 8:36-39; Romans 6:3-5]

The Lord’s Supper

We believe that in remembrance of the Lord Jesus we participate in the Lord’s Supper, taking bread and drink, which represent his body and blood, and thus proclaim the death of the Lord until he returns. All believers may partake but everyone should examine themselves before they eat and drink so as not to participate in an unworthy manner.

[Luke 22:20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-32]

The Church

We believe that the Church, referred to in Scripture as the Body of Christ, is made up of all people who have trusted Jesus Christ for salvation.  Our local church provides an opportunity for those believers to worship God, participate in fellowship and prayer with one another, grow in their love and knowledge of God, serve one another in brotherly love, and to share the good news of salvation with those who are not yet saved.

[Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:42, 13:1-2; Galatians 5:13; Ephesians 5:23; Revelation 2, 3]

The Devil

We believe our enemy, the Devil, is a spiritual being who along with demons fights against us as we follow Christ. He is called the god of this age and has blinded the minds of unbelievers so that they cannot see the light of the gospel. Although he has powers in this present age, he and his followers will not prevail and they will be sentenced to eternal condemnation.

[Ephesians 6:10-18; 1 Peter 5:8-9; Revelation 20:7-10]

Christ’s Return

We believe, according to His promise that Jesus will physically return for His people.

[1 Thessalonians 4:13-18]

We believe that at death, the souls of those who have trusted Christ for salvation enter into His presence. At Christ’s return for the Church those in Him who are still living will also be taken into His presence. All believers will then be with the Lord forever. Those who are not in Christ when they die or are not in Christ at the Lord’s return will be forever separated from God and live in eternal punishment.

[Luke 16:19-26; 2 Corinthians 5:8; Philippians 1:23; 2 Thessalonians 1:5-10]
