“Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe.” 1 Timothy 4:12 (New American Standard Bible)
This is an excerpt from an interview that I had with Leah and Noah this week regarding the upcoming trip to the Czech Republic. Leah is our bubbly 12-year old, and Noah is nearing 10 years old in January. At this age, they will be younger than any of the students at camp, nevertheless, they are looking forward to serving and making a difference.
Q: Who am I talking with today?
Leah: I’m Leah.
Noah: And I’m Noah.
Q: What are we doing as a family in one week?
Noah: We’re going to the Czech Republic.
Leah: We are going on a mission trip to teach Czech students about Christ and also teach them about English.
Q: We could do that here, couldn’t we? Why are we going to teach about Jesus in the Czech Republic?
Noah: Because there, Christianity isn’t very much a thing.
Q: Could you elaborate on that?
Leah: Like 1% of the Population in the Czech Republic is made-up of Christians.
Q: So, how do you see yourself fitting into this mission trip?
Noah: Helping with whatever I can do.
Leah: Well, I know that at least for the English classes, I’ll be handing out materials and stuff. I probably won’t be doing as much teaching though.
Noah: I’ll probably be doing about the same stuff as Leah.
Leah: Well, in Noah’s group, there are only two people [teachers] instead of three, so he will probably be doing a bit more.
Q: Based on all the stuff that we have talked about when preparing for this trip, what do you think is the most important thing that you will be bringing with you:
Leah: Jesus’ love. Showing Him through how we act with each other and the Czech students.
Q: Is there an age limit for how old you need to be to show Jesus’ love to others?
Noah: No.
Leah: Definitely not!
Q: Last question for you. If you were telling someone that you never met before about this mission trip to the Czech Republic, what would you want them to know?
Noah: Jesus loves them [the Czech students] and he wants them to love him back.
Leah: I’d have to say that we are doing this all for the glory of God.
