The Extended Life phase of our trip began when the rest of the FBC mission team boarded the train from Český Těšín to Prague.
On top of our list of things to do was recovery from the rigors of the previous camp. Like the returning missionaries, we were all tired and needed rest. We have all enjoyed the freedom of going to bed earlier and sleeping later. For the most part we caught up quickly, which is good because our calendar is also full.
The primary focus of the Extended Life portion of the trip is to assist the local church with follow up activities. These consist of two bible studies, and one hike. In addition, I have been asked to preach one sermon before our departure. Beyond these formally scheduled activities, we also have a slew of meetings, walks, teas, and meals planned with ministry partners and students.
Sunday, right after the FBC team boarded the train, I had coffee with a dear brother who will be translating for me this Sunday. He has a passion for missions to Ukraine, even in the midst of the war. We had an encouraging conversation about current events and how they impact our ability to share the gospel with those around us.
Monday and Tuesday we spent a good deal of the morning sleeping. The other order of business was catching up on laundry. Since we all had lots left over from camp, it took several days to complete.
Wednesday, we hosted tea with one of the youth leaders from camp. It was a good opportunity to get to know her better and enjoy fellowship.
Thursday we had our first follow up event – I’ll save the details on this for tomorrow.
Today, Anna had a walk with one of the students she bonded with over the last several camps. She was really encouraged by the conversations. I have been parked in front of my ironing board desk for the last several days preparing my sermon. Today, I was finally able to complete it. I think I will probably write about that experience for you as well. Writing a sermon has extra challenges when you factor in translation and cultural differences.
Now that my sermon is completed, I will start regular blogging in more detail. Thank you for continuing your prayers and support for us during the blog silence. With a little more than one week left to go, please pray that God gives us the strength and wisdom to finish strong.
Prayer Requests:
- Health for the interns and the Sandy family during their extended stays in the Czech Republic. Note that there is a stomach bug going through the camp where Aidan and Levi are serving.
- Blessing on the Czech leaders that God continues His work in the lives of those He touched at English Camp and the follow-ups.
